The Pittsfield Police Department currently has four highly trained accident reconstruction investigators under the immediate command of a sergeant. The function of this Bureau, aside from traffic enforcement is to investigate motor vehicle crashes. Crashes that involve serious personal injury and/or death are investigated by the Traffic Bureau by reconstructing the crash based on evidence located at the scene. This reconstruction is utilized to determine the fault of the crash.
In addition to traffic enforcement and accident reconstruction, each officer has an area of specialization that he brings to the Pittsfield Police Department. Officers Jeffrey Coco and Officer James McIntyre are currently assigned to the evening shift. Officer Coco is specially trained as a Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician and assists citizens with installing car seats in their vehicles. Officer Coco is also the department’s liaison with the Tow Truck Commission. Officer McIntyre works diligently at securing grants from the Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau and serves as our liaison with the Traffic and Taxi Commission.
Officer Marc Maddalena and Officer Michael Silver are currently assigned to the day shift. Officer Maddalena is specially trained in commercial vehicle enforcement. Officer Maddalena is also specially trained in electronic crash data retrieval. Both of these officers take a leadership role in coordinating traffic details for a wide range of special events that occur throughout the City.
