Detective Bureau

Captain Matthew Kirchner, Detective Bureau Commander

Typically, the Detective Bureau takes cases that are “unsolved, or unsolvable by patrol.” All major crimes such as homicide, attempted homicide, sexual assault, arson, home invasion and bank robberies are referred to the DB. Detectives also investigate cases that originate in patrol, but need additional follow-up. These cases may include financial crimes, property crimes with a large loss, serial crime investigations and many others. Additionally, detectives assist patrol officers with a wide range of other crimes by taking statements, conducting identification procedures and preparing subpoenas and search warrants. The Drug Unit and Crime Scene Services units are part of the Detective Bureau. Detectives are assigned to both day and evening shifts and are available, on-call, around the clock.
