Crime Scene Services

The Crime Scene Services Unit is made up of specially trained officers who process crime scenes and collect evidence. Crime Scene Investigators take photographs, collect fingerprints, compare collected prints to known samples, and collect other physical evidence such as blood and DNA. Investigators can also collect casts of footwear and tire impressions. When investigators cannot respond to the scene of a crime, evidence is collected and brought to them for later processing. Pittsfield Police Crime Scene Investigators work closely with their counterparts from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab on all major crimes.
