Traffic

The Pittsfield Police Department currently has four highly trained Traffic Officers under the immediate command of Lieutenant Marc Maddalena. The function of this Bureau is proactive traffic enforcement and traffic safety education, as well as investigation of motor vehicle crashes. Serious crashes that involve serious personal injury and/or death are investigated by reconstructing the incident, collecting evidence at the scene, and conducting follow ups in order to determine fault and/or criminal charges.

In addition to traffic enforcement and accident reconstruction, each officer has an area of specialization that he brings to the Pittsfield Police Department. Lieutenant Maddalena  takes a leadership role in coordinating traffic details for a wide range of special events that occur throughout the City. He also works diligently at securing grants from the Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau. Lieutenant Maddalena is also specially trained in crash data extraction and analysis. All officers are specially trained as a Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians and assist citizens with installing car seats in their vehicles. Officer Michael Silver and Officer Anthony Dayton are assigned to the evening shift and is also the department’s liaison with the Tow Truck, and Traffic and Taxi Commission. Officers Brandon Gallagher and Officer David Hallas are assigned to the day shift.
