The Pittsfield Police Department is seeking highly motivated, proactive Police Officers for lateral transfer to this department. Applicants must have active Civil Service status under M.G.L. Chapter 31 and be eligible for transfer. Officers must have successfully completed an MPTC full-time police academy, possess a Class A License to Carry Firearms, solid problem solving ability, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates will be subject to an extensive background investigation, medical evaluation, psychological screening and oral interview.
The Pittsfield Police Department is the largest municipal police agency in Berkshire County, being authorized for 97 sworn officers and serving a population 41,000+ residents. Full time and collateral duty special assignments include the Detective Bureau, Drug Unit, Crime-Scene, Anti-Crime Unit, Motorcycle Unit, K9, Community Outreach, School Resource Officer, DARE Officer, Field Training Program, Honor Guard, Bike Patrol, Traffic Unit and SRT.
PPD offers numerous pay incentives to qualified applicants along with a competitive benefits package to include sick time, paid holidays, generous vacation allowances, and annual uniform/equipment allowance. Laterals enter the pay scale and receive vacation allowance commensurate with their years of service. While the average annual base salary (no overtime, with holiday pay) for a Patrol Officer is $68,532.02, this figure does not account for the department’s incentive schedule. The current average actual annual salary of Patrol Officers in all pay scales, including average education, language, certifications, special assignment, and night differentials is $72,819.00 (no overtime, with holiday pay).
