Media Release – Dog Licenses

MGL Chapter 140, Section 137 requires the owner or keeper of a dog six months old or over to be licensed by the City of Pittsfield.  Thereafter, dog licenses are renewed every year on April 1st.

In March 2013, the City Clerk’s office sent licensing notices to dog owners. On May 1, 2013, a “10 day notice” was sent to those who had not yet renewed their licenses.

Beginning July 10th, citations were mailed by the Animal Control Officer to non-respondents.

A first offense for failure to license a dog is $25. Citations can be resolved by paying the $25 fine and the license fee. The license fee is $10 for spayed or neutered dogs, $20 if not spayed or neutered.

If you have received a citation and believe this is in error, please call 499-9361 or stop by the City Clerk’s office at 70 Allen Street to update your information.

Unresolved citations will be processed by the Animal Control Officer at the Pittsfield District Court.
